🥰 Thank you first 100 subscribers!
A personal email to thank you for supporting this 100 GenAI MVP newsletter right at the start of it all. It means so much. Plus a breakdown of milestones 🥳
Hellooo AI Alchemists! 🤖🧪✨
We recently reached 100 subscribers, and I wanted to write a more personal email to thank you all SO much for being early supporters.
This graph perfectly represents how much life has trended upwards since starting this journey. Many of you have become my favourite people to bounce ideas with, hang out with online & IRL, and sharing in each others AI journeys.
If you have your own AI newsletter, YouTube channel etc that I don’t know about, hit reply on this email or DM me on LinkedIn and let me know so I can join your journey too 💖
✨ Some magical milestones so far:
Real-Life Impact
While my mission is to ship 100 GenAI MVP projects, my personal rule is that each one must solve a real problem for at least one real person. Below are some of the ways we have made people’s lives better already.
Thought Checker App:
My first ever GenAI app, where I solved my own problem:
🥰 20 vs 1 exercise completions in a month: I went from completing this super helpful reframing exercise once in a month to 20 times, because the emotionally exhausting step has been removed. I'm very grateful for this use-case.
Transcript Analyser:
A transcript analyser made for a founder friend who didn’t have time to process 30+ user interviews, but still wanted to get data-driven insights about what actions he could take to improve user experience.
⏰ Saved time: Saved founder 30 hours of user interview analysis so they were able to act on insights the same day. When I built the first version, it was way more accurate than this current version and I'm not sure why (OpenAI updated it's API which is why I built a new version, plus the old prompt didn't work anymore).
Member Discovery App:
My most recent MVP (upcoming newsletter), built specifically for Build Club to help members find other people working in similar problem spaces to them.
🏆 Competition Winner: Chosen by Build Club community as the solution to helping members discover and connect with each other. E.g. If you search “Who can help me build RAG applications”, it will surface members who are actively working on Retrieval Augmented Generation systems right now based on their build-in-public updates.
→ Deep Dive in Progress (subscribe)
The IRL impact is the most meaningful part of this 100 GenAI MVP mission to me.
If you have a use-case you’d like to explore, reach out and let me know. I charge $500-$3000 for an MVP which includes an hour discovery call, requirements sign-off and 2-3 weeks worth of build time (outside of my day job).
Keep in mind that it would be an MVP like the ones I have built so far, not a product although all of them solve real pain points as they are.
Two awards
It’s been 8 months since starting this newsletter from a total cold start. We are 7 GenAI projects in out of 100, and two of them have won awards:
🏆 Pitch Panda: We won the people’s choice award at a startup hub pitch night for having a convo with a robot panda on stage.
🏆 Battle of the AI chatbots: My RAG app (upcoming newsletter) won first place in a competition where 5 AI builders competed to build a member retrieval system on top of a member database (AirTable).
Two paid subscribers
Two of you have paid for annual subscriptions to this newsletter even tho there isn’t an official paid tier (didn’t want to paywall anything) 😭🥰
Public Speaking & Workshops
Over the last 8 months, this newsletter has helped work on my fear of public speaking.
Fishburner’s Pitch Night: I stood up in front of 200+ startup founders and talked to a robot panda on stage, winning the people’s choice award. It led to some of my most valued IRL connections.
Interviewed in Balance The Grind: 70,000+ readership, interviews on work, life & balance with CEOs, startup founders etc. Honoured to be featured in an upcoming post.
Demo’d a GenAI MVP: at Build Club’s opening launch event with 5 other AI builders.
Teaching an AI workshop: On Thursday, Apr 11 at 6:00pm-8:00pm, I’ll be at the University of Technology Sydney teaching a workshop on how to build a YouTube summariser app that sends you a monthly roundup email, as part of the Sydney AI Happy Hour meetup. RSVP here if you’re local! 👩💻
Outpouring of encouragement & support
Your messages of support are so incredibly kind and heart warming. I’m so grateful for them and regularly revisit because it helps me make sure that I’m building MVPs and writing deep dives that matter to you.
What’s Next?
We’re only 7 projects in out of 100, and I’m even more excited about the possibilities of GenAI than I was at the start.
I’m currently working on two key things right now:
Turning my member discovery MVP into an actual product now that it has been chosen by the Build Club community. I want to add some next level helpful features, like a weekly summary of everything our members have been working on over the last x amount of time.
Creating an AI workshop on sending yourself an email summary of videos released by your top 5 channels over x amount of time. I want to go beyond dot-pointing transcripts though, and make it extra awesome, like jumping to specific parts of a video and extracting clips, turning music videos into choreography breakdowns. Things like that.
I appreciate you all so much
Again, I just want to say thank you so much for your support right at the very start of this journey, I’m so grateful for you.
If you get a chance, please hit reply and let me know your thoughts:
Why do you read Fairylights?
What are your favourite topics?
What would you most like to see in the future?
Your feedback will help me plan even better GenAI MVPs and deep dives for you.
Thank you,
You’re the best!
